Road Accident Victims Compensation Law, 1975
What to do after a car accident in Israel
In Israel, a road accident victim is compensated by the insurer of the vehicle they were in, regardless of fault — the absolute liability principle.
At the scene
Stop, call an ambulance and police if anyone is hurt, photograph the scene, collect driver and witness details, and obtain an accident confirmation.
Medical documentation
See a doctor or emergency room the same day. Contemporaneous medical records are the key evidence of causation.
The claim
Claims are filed against the insurer; where the vehicle is uninsured, against the Karnit fund. Limitation is seven years, and until age 25 for minors.
