“Mirror Image” Case: Detention of Senior Ironi Tiberias Officials Extended
As part of an investigation into suspicions of economic offenses at the Ironi Tiberias football club, club owner Aryeh Kalmanzon and other officials were arrested. The Rishon LeZion Magistrate’s Court extended their detention periods; these are suspicions, not facts proven by the court.

Who Was Arrested
The investigation concerns club owner Aryeh Kalmanzon, finance employee Yael Bar, Miki Bitan, and the team’s former coach, Eliran Hudeda. The suspects are suspected of involvement in alleged dual contracts and economic offenses during the past four seasons, in which the team played in the National League and the Premier League.
What Are the Suspicions
The police are investigating suspicions of obtaining something by fraud, false registration, document forgery, and money laundering, as well as violations of tax laws, the National Insurance Law, the Associations Law, and the Wage Protection Law. According to the police account, the scope of the alleged offenses is estimated at tens of millions of shekels. The investigation is also examining other companies owned by Kalmanzon.
What the Court Decided
Judge Menachem Mizrahi extended the detention of Aryeh Kalmanzon and Miki Bitan by five days, and Yael Bar’s detention by four days. Eliran Hudeda’s detention was extended until next Thursday. Regarding Bitan, the court stated that there was reasonable suspicion and concern about obstruction of the investigation; the police indicated that a similar concern existed regarding the other detainees as well.
How the Investigation Is Being Conducted
The investigation is being conducted by the Lahav 433 unit, in cooperation with the Israel Football Association, the Tax Authority, the National Insurance Institute, and the Corporations Authority — Registrar of Associations. According to the police statement, the investigation was conducted covertly for several months. Hundreds of current and former football players are expected to be questioned; the source does not report that an indictment has been filed or that a final decision has been issued in the case.
The Defense’s Position
Kalmanzon’s attorney claimed that he was a passive investor and did not participate in the club’s financial activity. Bitan’s attorney claimed that his client cooperated with the investigation, provided explanations, and could be released under alternative restrictive conditions, but the court rejected the request. Yael Bar’s defense questioned whether there was direct evidence linking her to tax offenses.
What this means for you
Extending detention during the investigation stage does not mean that a person has been found guilty; the court allows a suspect to be held temporarily when, among other reasons, there is reasonable suspicion and concern about obstruction of the investigation. For the club’s players and employees, the case could lead to their being summoned for questioning and to the examination of contracts, payments, tax declarations, and National Insurance Institute contributions.
